About Us
Down River Farm aims to provide local produce grown with integrity to the Peoria community through a CSA, farmers market, and local restaurants. Two acres of vegetables, flowers, chickens, and bees surround a historic farmstead dating back to the Civil War era. All elements come together to mimic nature. We use no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides and aim to restore the soil by feeding it large amounts of compost and other forms of organic matter so it can support future generations. The farmer grew up exploring the Fox River in the suburbs of Chicago. The Fox River is a tributary to the Illinois River which passes through Peoria suggesting that not only has the farmer moved downriver but that we consider our environmental actions and the way they affect others down the river.
